Life coaching has become popular over the last couple decades as people seek guidance and a quick fix for their problems. It certainly has its place and is good if you want to focus on the present and/or set goals for the future.
But here’s the thing…
Sometimes you need to unhook yourself from the past before you can move forward. Addressing the past (be it trauma or any negative conditioning from earlier stages in your life) is not something life coaches do.
The way I practise hypnotherapy involves an exploration of your life now, your future goals, and (sometimes) a look at your past. Rest assured, we don’t dwell unnecessarily on your past but we do look at it if, in my professional opinion, it is still having a major impact on your life now.
And of course, most life coaches do not use hypnosis. Sessions are done purely on a conscious level. The trouble is that we are more than just conscious beings and it is often the subconscious mind that needs updating. This is what hypnotherapy aims to do.
So, this is the main difference between life coaching and hypnotherapy. A life coach works on a conscious level, stays with the present and helps you identify and work toward goals. A good hypnotherapist is trained to look at your whole ‘timeline’ – past, present, and future – and uses hypnotic techniques to reprogramme your subconscious/instinctive mind.
